Mac's Layup Drill: Whitehouse Foundation, Terry Collins and the NFL

The wonderfully simple and perfectly relevant Christopher Whitehouse Foundation has been about its business again this year.

Just as it has been all this time since the Whitehouse family founded the small Island charity as a way to remember and honor their son Christopher, who died at 27 years old, just at the beginning of what already had the markings of an all-star career in the family business of helping kids.

Basically, Pete and Pat Whitehouse and their raft of friends throw some money together every year then disburse it among Island high school guidance counselors for the little things in life that some kids take for granted while others view as mountainous obstacles.

Like a college application for a high school senior with no money, or a few bucks for a school yearbook that some kids wouldn't even think of being able to buy ... even when their picture is in there with the rest of the honor roll students.

This year they are honoring St. Peter's High School principal John Fodera at the organization's annual golf outing this Friday at Silver Lake, though Fodera insists to me that it's he who is honored by the foundation's attention.
